Eurostat: the number of guest nights increased at the beginning of 2024 in the EU countries
The number of guest nights spent in the accommodation facilities of European Union member states increased by 7 percent to 452.6 million in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Friday.
According to the report, EU accommodation registered 133.9 million nights in January (+3 percent compared to January 2023), 149.2 million (+6 percent) in February, and 169.5 million (+9 percent) in March.
A total of 203,624,620 foreign visitors and 249,051,984 domestic travelers stayed in accommodation in the 27 member states of the EU. Most of them, 75,431,446, were in Germany, where 60,555,305 were domestic travelers and 14,876,141 foreign visitors. Germany is followed by Spain, where out of 75,615,788 visitors, 26,452,210 domestic and 49,163,578 foreigners slept in accommodation. In France, out of 65,940,746 guests, 46,487,065 were domestic and 19,453,681 were foreigners.
