Eurostat: the proportion of tourists from outside Europe increased last year at EU accommodation
The proportion of nights spent by foreign guests from outside Europe at EU accommodation increased from 12.6 percent to 15.6 percent between 2022 and 2023, which means that the number of guest nights spent by non-Europeans increased by an average of 60 million, or an average of 164 every night of the year. increased by 1,000 – the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Thursday.
According to the EU Statistical Office, tourist accommodation registered a total of 2.9 billion guest nights in the EU member states last year, compared to 2.8 billion in 2022, of which nearly 1.6 billion were domestic tourists, and 1.4 billion were international tourists. guest night spent by guests.
62.4 percent of guest nights spent by foreigners were related to tourists from other EU countries, and 21.4 percent to tourists from European but non-EU countries.
Last year, 7.1 percent of EU accommodation was occupied by North American tourists, while 4.6 percent were occupied by Asian guests, 2.2 percent by Central and South American guests, 1 percent by guests from the Oceania region, and 1 percent by African visitors. 0.7 percent.
The report also revealed that EU accommodation has been expanded by around one million beds. While there were around 28.9 million beds available in the accommodation facilities registered in the member countries in 2022, their number increased to 29.2 million last year.
It was noted that accommodation in Italy and France accounted for slightly more than a third of the available places in the Union with 5.2 million (18 percent) and 5.1 million (17 percent) places respectively. The mentioned two countries were followed by Spain and Germany with 3.8 million and 3.4 million places.
