Eurostat: 513 kilograms of waste was generated per person in the EU in 2022
The amount of municipal waste per capita in the European Union was 513 kilograms in 2022, 19 kilograms or 4 percent less than in 2021 (532 kg); In Hungary, 406 kilograms of waste were produced per person in the year under review, the statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, announced on Thursday.
According to the EU office, the largest amount of municipal waste was produced by residents of Austria (827 kilograms/person), Denmark (787 kilograms/person) and Luxembourg (720 kilograms/person). The lowest amount was recorded in Romania (301 kilograms/person), Poland (364 kilograms/person) and Estonia (373 kilograms/person).
In the European Union, an average of 249 kilograms of household waste was recycled per person in 2022, compared to an average of 264 kilograms/person in 2021. In 2022, 48 percent of all municipal waste was recycled.
