European flood of milk, falling lamb prices
Agricultural Business Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors trends in the world market of meat and poultry. Data from the Market and Price Information system of KSH and AKI can be useful for making even short term business decisions.
According to recent data, the quantity of milk purchased from producers in Hungary was up in July compared to June (by 2 per cent) and to July 2006 (by 3 per cent). The price of unprocessed milk was up by 9 per cent compared to July 2006.
Livestock of sheep and goats is expected to be 2 per cent less in the EU in 2007 than it had been in 2006. Longer term prospects are also unfavourable for Hungarians, as the decrease is expected to continue in 2008. Meat production is also expected to shrink by 1 per cent. The price of Hungarian lamb in Italy was less in 2007, than a year earlier.
