foodora is the first in Europe to launch Drone Food Delivery
Foodora has announced that it will start pioneering drone food delivery in Sweden in partnership with the companies Tele2 and Aerit. This is the first time drone technology has been used in the food industry. Aerit developed the drones that integrate with foodora’s technology platform to deliver food smoothly and efficiently.
Daniel Gustafsson Rabát, director of logistics at foodora, emphasized that fast home delivery is a democratic issue, and their goal is that wherever people are in the country, they can quickly access the products they consider necessary. Drone deliveries will first be tested in the Värmdö area near Stockholm, which is divided into islands, and then the range of participating restaurants and shops will be continuously expanded.
The operational director of foodora Hungary, Péter Garay, emphasized that technological developments help the work of couriers, and that automation can be used primarily in areas where it also makes things easier for couriers. As an example, he cited situations in a larger office building or closed campus where the drone could pick up an order from a courier and deliver it directly to the appropriate door or desk.
The drones have a range of up to 12 kilometers and can carry up to 4 kilograms of weight even in rain, wind or snow. Foodora’s goal is to provide the same high-quality and fast delivery service as in big cities with the help of automation and drone delivery, even in hard-to-reach areas.
