Fewer grapes harvested in Europe
Data from the Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) and KSH’s market price information system (PÁIR) revealed that 158.5 million hectolitres of wine (excluding grape juice and grape must) was produced in the European Union in 2016. This output is 7.7 million hectolitres smaller than in 2015. Less wine is made this year in the three biggest wine producers in the EU.
This year the European Union is expected to purchase 22,000 tons more, 750,000 tons of chicken meat from the international market. The EU’s pork output will be around 23.6 million tons in 2016, 1.1 percent more than in 2015. Due to increased demand in China, the EU’s pork export will surge by 24 percent to more than 2.7 million tons in 2016.
