We pay one of Europe's highest VAT
One of the highest VAT rates of the European Union can be found in Hungary. But in case of the personal income tax Hungarians pay only the half of the EU average – shows the recent Eurostat data.
The Brussels-based statistical office also showed that since the outbreak of crisis in 2008 half of the Member States raised VAT, so in case of crisis, the governments, prefer to raise the VAT rate.
Only 2009 data are available in case of overall tax burden. That time the Hungarian tax burden was slightly higher than the EU average. Since then, however, due to the decrease of the personal income tax it is likely to fall below the EU average – reports MTI.
