EU: the lack of digitization hinders precision farming
By 2020, the European Commission will cover the European Union with a high-speed broadband Internet network – agrarszektor.hu wrote. The biggest obstacle to agricultural implementation is that elderly farmers do not understand digitalisation and the coverage of rural areas is still very incomplete. The lack of digital skills hinders the spread of precision farming.
Broadband coverage is around 87 percent in EU urban areas, but rural areas are far behind, although a gradual catch-up can be observed. The coverage of rural areas was below 40 percent in 2016 and reached 46 percent in 2017. At the same time, the European Commission wants to cover the European Union with a high-speed broadband Internet network by 2020. (agrarszektor.hu)
