Statistics on the restaurant sector

At the end of last year the data from the OPTEN 2013-15 research on the restaurant sector were published. In 2015 the sector’s total revenue was HUF 457 billion (in 2014 this sum was HUF 387 billion). The proportion of loss-making businesses was 31.6 percent (in 2014 it was 33.1 percent). Between 2013 and 2016 the proportion of market players decreased by more than 1,200.

Restaurant-types businesses employed 77,845 people in 2016 (back in 2013 they had 68,761 employees). The sector’s future development depends on the performance of the tourism sector, and on internal consumption trends.
