Ham sales surged in both value and volume in the Easter period
Hungarian consumers spent approximately HUF 6 billion on ham and smoked meat around Easter last year. For 88 percent of this sum they purchased high quality cooked ham last March-April. 11 percent was spent on other types of ham and the smoked-cooked segment had a 2-percent share. Total value sales expanded by 5 percent and volume sales augmented by 1 percent from the Easter period of 2012. The volume weighted average price was HUF 1,844/kg – up 5 percent; 59 percent (in value) of ham sold were self-service products. Retail channel-wise supermarkets and discounts had the biggest share at 41 percent, followed by hypermarkets at 33 percent.
