Economic performance in the euro area rose sharply in the third quarter
Economic performance rose sharply and employment increased significantly in the European Union and in the euro area in the third quarter, as the first wave of the global coronavirus pandemic subsided.
According to a second estimate released by the European Union’s statistical office (Eurostat) on Friday, gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 12.6 percent quarter-on-quarter in the euro area and 11.6 percent in the European Union in July-September.
On an annual basis, however, seasonally adjusted GDP fell by 4.4 percent in the euro area and by 4.3 percent in the EU in the third quarter. (MTI)
