Mushroom exports have strengthened
According to data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, Hungary’s foreign trade balance for champignons has been positive in recent years. The foreign trade surplus for champignons increased to HUF 5.18 billion in 2024 compared to HUF 3.57 billion in the previous year. Exports increased by 43 percent in volume to 7.61 thousand tons, and by 49 percent in value to HUF 7.48 billion.

The largest buyers of Hungarian champignons in the period under review were Austria (4.99 thousand tons, +36 percent) and Serbia (1.02 thousand tons, +71 percent). More than 70 percent of imports came from Poland (2.36 thousand tons, +39 percent). According to AKI PÁIR data, in the Budapest Wholesale Market, champignons were sold at a price of 979 forints/kilogram (+11 percent), oyster mushrooms at a price of 1172 forints/kilogram (+17 percent) in 2024. In the first fourteen weeks of 2025, champignons were sold at a price of 1000 forints/kilogram, and oyster mushrooms were sold at a price of 1202 forints/kilogram, an 8 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
