Budapest’s hotel market is strengthening, according to an analysis
The Budapest hotel market is strengthening, and the 2019 guest night record may be broken this year, the American real estate service provider and real estate investment company CBRE told MTI on Wednesday.
CBRE’s analysis explains the recovery with the brisk foreign tourist traffic. In the first eight months of 2025, travelers spent 11.5 million guest nights in Budapest accommodations, 8 percent more than in the same period last year. The summer months are the most popular, 55 percent of guests stayed in hotels, 86 percent came from abroad, most of them from the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Italy and Israel – they wrote.
According to the announcement, there are 234 hotels operating in the Hungarian capital with more than 23 thousand rooms. In 2025, 6 new hotels with 465 rooms have opened so far, and in the next 3 years, 20 hotels with 2800 rooms are expected to be opened. Prices have fallen by 3.4 percent this year, with the average being 127 euros in the summer months.
CBRE experts welcome the growing interest of investors in the local hotel market, as their developments could boost supply. More premium shopping opportunities and non-discount flights would be needed to increase demand for luxury hotels, but in terms of business travel, Budapest could gradually catch up with the Czech and Austrian capitals, they added.
