Help arrives for producers who suffered severe spring frost damage
The government is committed to supporting the horticultural sector even in the midst of challenges, therefore, following consultation with sector players, the Ministry of Agriculture has created the possibility of advance payments for grape and fruit producers who suffered damage in view of the extremely severe spring frost experienced this year. The Hungarian State Treasury has started the transfer, so a total of 1.44 billion forints will reach those affected, announced István Nagy, Minister of Agriculture.

The minister announced that 1,584 claims for damage relief met the eligibility criteria as part of the measure taken to improve the liquidity situation of producers. The State Treasury has started notifying beneficiaries via a repository and transferring the advance. The Minister also drew attention to the fact that the amount of the advance payment is included in the damage mitigation allowance that can be claimed after the 2025 damage mitigation year, so it is important that producers who have received advance payments pay the damage mitigation contribution on time and submit an application for damage mitigation allowance. If they fail to do so, they will lose their entitlement to the damage mitigation allowance, and the amount received as advance support must be repaid. Under the agricultural damage mitigation system, producers who suffered spring frost damage will receive the remaining part of the damage mitigation allowance after their damage in the usual procedure, in March 2026.
