Contactless payment at Carrefour France
The new card will be rolled out in France from 11 February 2009 by Carrefour's financial services division. Company hopes to sell 2.5 million PASS MasterCard cards in 2009 in France.
Carrefour and MasterCard have launched
the PASS MasterCard card, which is aimed at Carrefour customers
across France. Over the next few years, Carrefour's French stores
will be equipped with the terminals, which allow contactless payment
by credit card. The hypermarkets will be equipped this year and the
rest of the network by two to three years.
The terminals will operate with the
"Paypass" offer, which resembles a classic credit card. To
pay, the customer only has to pass the card in front of a reading
terminal. Only payments of less than EUR20 will be eligible for the
service.
This universal payment card also acts
as a loyalty card, offering services like insurance and guarantee on
the purchase of appliances. In France, 2.8 million people have a
Carrefour payment card.
