A new chapter in the history of Hungarian space exploration is expected to open this weekend, June 8: Tibor Kapu, the next Hungarian astronaut, will set off for the International Space Station as part of the HUNOR program. The trip is not only a scientific milestone, but also a special gastronomic mission, as Tibor will take with him an iconic Hungarian sweet, the Stühmer Pillanat Corfu space chocolate – which anyone can now taste.

Taste in space

Everything changes in space – not only gravity, but also the functioning of the senses. NASA’s publication Taste in Space deals in detail with how the taste of food changes in space. One of the main reasons for this is that microgravity rearranges the fluids in the body, saturates the nasal and facial sinuses, reducing the sense of smell and thus the sense of taste. Many people describe this condition as “space flu”. Another study found that in a microgravity environment, the intensity of food aromas such as coffee, garlic, anise, coriander and cumin can decrease, and familiar flavors become duller, which is why astronauts often crave more intense, spicy, and powerful flavors.

Space chocolate for everyone: a snack that can make anyone an astronaut for a moment

These scientific observations were taken into account when developing the Stühmer Moment Corfu space chocolate. The goal was to create a chocolate that not only meets NASA’s strict specifications, but also provides a taste experience that is enjoyable in space, reminiscent of home. The recipe was based on the legendary Stühmer Corfu bar, and the end result is a special chocolate that is resistant to temperature fluctuations, pressure changes and weightlessness, and offers a real culinary pleasure even in space.

This world of taste is now available to everyone: the version of Stühmer Moment Corfu space chocolate that is also available on Earth is now available in stores and online. A bite that allows everyone to be part of the discovery and feel like Tibor Kapu for a moment.

However, a discovery can not only begin in laboratories or in space. It is often born in a quiet moment when we finally break away from the rush of everyday life. Stühmer’s latest chocolate selection, Stühmer Moment, offers this experience: an opportunity to stop, pay attention to ourselves, and live in the present. Because when we turn off the noise of the outside world, our creative, exploring self truly turns on.
