During the works to strengthen the ecological stability and biodiversity of the Pilis Biosphere Reserve, 190 “conservation forest areas” have been designated in the Esztergom, Pilisszentlélek, Pilismarót and Dömös regions. Preserving the natural state is particularly justified on patches between 500 and 5,000 square meters, so there will be no further forestry on these approximately 170 hectares.

They also identified 3,431 habitat trees, which are shelters for many animal species

By collecting data from a mobile application, they identified almost ten thousand microbial habitats, burrows, decaying bark pockets, mushroom colonies, and water retention depressions, all of which play a key role in maintaining the health of the forest ecosystem. They also paid attention to dead trees, which are important indicators of close-to-nature management – they wrote. They added that students from the University of Sopron participated in the program, and during their internship they were able to learn about modern tools for sustainable forest management, from on-site data collection to digital processing. The participants of the 30-month, 1 million euro cross-border HUSK Biosphere Reserves program are implementing 12 model projects in Hungary and Slovakia – the Pilis Park Forest said in a previous announcement.
