Inflation is managed in an interesting way by a supermarket
Inflation and its effect on purchasing power is one of the biggest concerns among the French. This problem has been a defining theme of the elections for years, Telex wrote. The economic difficulties of the past period have made it increasingly difficult for many French people to eat properly, as their money is worth less and less.
The Parisian cooperative supermarket La Louve has come up with a unique solution to deal with inflation. Using a concept that has already been tested in the United States, they offer quality products at low prices. In La Louve, members are both shop owners and customers at the same time: they have to work three hours a month in the supermarket in order to buy at a discount.
Before each start of work, the members distribute the tasks among themselves, thus ensuring smooth operation. Only twelve paid employees work in La Louve, while nearly four thousand volunteers help with the operation. This results in significant savings in labor costs, allowing prices to be on average 20-40 percent lower than in a traditional chain store.
According to surveys, three out of four people feel that the economic situation in France has worsened in the recent period. La Louve’s cooperative model not only eases economic burdens, but also strengthens community cohesion. Through voluntary work and shared responsibility, members develop a deeper relationship with each other and the local community.
