This amount of money will be used to finance the farmers in the following years
We are spending more than HUF 5,300 billion to support agriculture, the operation of Hungarian farmers is guaranteed and safely financed until 2027 – explained the Minister of Agriculture in Kossuth radio’s Sunday newspaper program.
István Nagy drew attention to the fact that there will be changes in land-based subsidies. According to his explanation, farmers can receive 147 euros for one hectare of cultivated area, but the smallest producers of ten hectares receive an additional 80 euros, and farmers up to and including 150 hectares are entitled to an additional 40 euros. In the next cycle, they will be able to provide farmers with 46 percent more funds from agri-environmental management subsidies, and areas practicing organic farming will receive 64 percent more subsidies – the minister added, calling it the most important task to familiarize farmers with these opportunities. He also said that 5,377 billion forints in agricultural subsidies are coming to Hungary from the European Union. The head of the ministry recalled: even before the drought and the war in Ukraine, the Hungarian government undertook in its historic decision to increase the co-financing of agricultural developments from national sources to 80 percent. The cabinet will put more than HUF 2,300 billion into this in order to improve the competitiveness of Hungarian farmers – he indicated.
István Nagy emphasized that the investments that the left-liberal government at the time made a mistake during the distribution of the resources of the first EU cycle must be built
Among these, he mentioned the renovation of livestock farms with the most modern technology, the construction of drying, storage and refrigeration capacities, as well as the support of precision farming. The Minister of Agriculture also spoke about the fact that this year’s – historic drought – affected more than one million hectares, so real help had to be given to the farmers quickly. He listed as examples the interest rate freeze, the provision of subsidized loans, and the fact that the farmers received their area-based support in the form of an increased amount of advance, because it was a matter of survival that the autumn sowing and soil preparation work could be carried out properly.
In the program, István Nagy called the connection between runaway food prices and sanctions a fact that cannot be disputed
Everything has changed since the war, after the introduction of energy sanctions, the price of fertilizer tripled, “the processes got out of control”, so the Hungarian government had to introduce protective measures, he pointed out. The minister believed that Brussels does not want to give up the sanctions policy, which “makes life difficult for ourselves”. They will pay the price of the war with us, and this is not okay – he said.
