Increasing inflation in May and on an annual basis
In May, the monthly increase in consumer prices was 1.5 percent. Compared to the May of 2008 it was 3.8 percent. In the first five month of this year prices were higher by 3.2 percent than the same period last year.
According to the report of the Central Statistical Office the increase in prices was led by food with a 4.9 percent increase mainly the increase of the season priced foods just like potato, fruit and fresh vegetables. Without the season priced foods price increase was only a half percent. The alcoholic drinks and tobacco products became less expensive than the average. The food price increase over the past 12 months have been a significant 7.2 percent. The price of porkfat (35.1 percent), rice, (20.7 percent), the season priced food (13.5 percent), swine (11 percent) and Paris sausages (10 percent) increased the most. However the price of the cheese (-13.5 percent), the cooking oil (-10.5 percent) and flour (-7.7 percent) have been reduced. The price of alcoholic beverages and tobacco increased by 5.9 percent. The price of clothing and of consumer durables increased under the average on monthly and annual average levels.
