Domestic cattle producer prices increased at the beginning of the year

According to AKI slaughter statistics, in 2025, cattle slaughter in live weight increased by 24.2 percent compared to 2024. Cow slaughter, which accounts for more than half of all slaughter, increased by 6.3 percent, and heifer slaughter by 17.3 percent.

According to KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports decreased by 30.6 percent (68.1 thousand tons) and their value by 11.2 percent in 2025 compared to 2024. The main partners were Israel, Poland, Croatia, Italy, Austria and Kosovo. Hungary’s live cattle imports fell by 47.5 percent (8.9 thousand tons) and their value by 37 percent compared to the previous year. More than half of the live cattle came from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Latvia. The volume of beef exports increased by 74.7 percent (8.4 thousand tons). The volume of beef imports decreased by 4.7 percent (12.6 thousand tons), while its value increased by 29.6 percent in the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was 2297 HUF/kilogram carcass warm weight in the 1st–7th week of 2026, an increase of 15.9 percent compared to the previous year. The price of slaughter heifers was 34.3 percent higher and that of slaughter cows was 31.8 percent higher in the observed period.
