EM: Compared to the beginning of 2022, there will be three times more green cars in Hungary
According to statistics, almost 66,500 exclusively electric vehicles have already received a light green official mark in Hungary, and their number has tripled since January 2022 – the Ministry of Energy (EM) announced on its Facebook page on Monday.
They added that one in four of the most climate-friendly road vehicles came into service in the country in 2024. According to the expectations of the Ministry of Energy, the number of purely electric cars may increase to 120,000 by 2026.
According to the data of the road traffic register, in October 1951, purely electric cars were put on the market in Hungary. Only in March 2024 (2108) and in June and September of this year (respectively 2072) did more vehicles with green license plates appear on domestic roads. The past month thus brought the third best data of all time in terms of the popularity of environmentally friendly driving in Hungary.
The future belongs to green energy. Hungary is striving for a leading role in its production and storage in homes, industrial sites and vehicles. The spread of clean and quiet cars makes settlements more livable. Modern cars not only help to reduce air pollution and noise pollution from road traffic, they are also cheaper to operate and maintain – they wrote in the post.
They pointed out that the government is promoting electromobility with a total of almost HUF 60 billion in two programs. Businesses can apply for a non-refundable subsidy of HUF 30 billion for the purchase of purely electric cars, vans and minibuses.
