The quarter of the cigarette sales has disappeared
Only 9.3 billion cigarettes were sold in Hungary in 2013, after the 13 billion cigarettes of 2011 and 12.5 billion cigarettes of 2012.
The increase in the price of tobacco products (20 percent in one year), has contributed significantly to the downturn as well as the fact that cigarettes can be bought at fewer places.
However it seems that the market participants are still satisfied. The BAT Pécsi Dohánygyár Kft. recently announced that the company will build a new plant with an approximately 9 billion HUF investment. The plant will produce 90 percent of the tobacco products for exports.
