The retail sector has never belonged to the highly profitable sectors, not even compared to the food production– said Feiner Péter, the chairman of Spar Magyarország Kft., in an interview in the Magyar Narancs.

SPAR closed last year with a serious loss. One reason of the loss is the turnover decrease, because of the crisis, the other, that Spar took over the Plus network in 2008 and invested a lot into these shops – said Feiner. This situation was “crowned” with the special tax which should be paid from the non-existing profits.

“It is the ideal, if the Hungarian participants are in the lead of domestic market. It would also be acceptable if the two other domestic-owned supermarket chains the Coop or the Real would lead. It would be useful if some healthy protectionism would be created in which everyone could help the domestic entrepreneurs”- said Baldauf László, president of the CBA in last week's issue of Figyelő – reports Világgazdaság Online.
