The Global AVA, the international association of wine regions, celebrates its first anniversary
The Global AVA celebrated its first anniversary on March 10, 2026. In addition to presenting the results of the first year at the press conference, the association’s new member, the Paarl wine region in South Africa, was welcomed in a ceremonial setting. They also announced the date and location of the 2026 summit, which this year will be hosted by Hungary and Croatia at the end of March.
The Global AVA, the Global Association of Artisanal Winemakers, celebrated its first anniversary with the announcement of a new member region and the 2026 summit in Hungary and Croatia. The alliance was established in early 2025 with the aim of developing a sustainable relationship between the partner wine regions and promoting each other by strengthening each other. The global alliance currently has twelve member regions: the partnership created by the nine founding regions has added three new members in its first year, including the newest member, the Paarl region of South Africa.
“Within a year, our alliance has entered a new phase: more and more regions are joining and more and more knowledge is being shared to further develop our thriving member wine regions, just as we are doing in Alameda County,”
– said David Haubert, Supervisor of Alameda County District 1, who played a key role in the creation of The Global AVA and is currently its president. “Knowledge sharing between regions, including the upcoming 2026 summit in the Badacsony wine region of Hungary and Dalmatia, Croatia, will continue to create closer collaborations for the growth of various sectors, which we believe will strengthen each regional economy and create new employment opportunities.” Supervisor Haubert has served Alameda County’s 1st District since November 2020.
The first half of the 2026 Global AVA Summit will be held in Badacsony with presentations, joint workshops and winery visits, and then continue for another three days in Zagreb, Dubrovnik and Split. Representatives from all partner regions will be able to meet local wine and tourism leaders, exchange ideas, and showcase their region’s wines to the host regions.
“We continue to focus on developing programs that connect us as communities, not only sharing best practices in the wine industry, but also creating vibrant opportunities in wine, tourism, and other sectors,” said Mirena Bagur, Executive Director of The Global AVA. “Our second year is off to a strong start as we welcome the highly regarded Paarl region of South Africa as a new member to our association, whose southern location allows us to have a balanced membership for professional exchanges.”
