Qatari-Hungarian business forum organized for the first time in Doha
The Hungarian Food Business Program, the food export development branch of the Agrármarketing Centrum, organized its first business meeting in Doha. Although Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world – thanks to its vast natural gas and oil reserves – it relies on imports in many areas. The country’s own food reserves are limited, as its climate is particularly unfavorable for agricultural production.
Hungary and Qatar already cooperate in many areas, including the agricultural, sustainability and energy sectors. The main aim of the business meeting, which was jointly organized by the Agrármarketing Centrum and the Hungarian Embassy in Qatar, was to map out what kind of food there might be a demand for in the Middle Eastern country.
Ten Hungarian companies and around seventy representatives of local distributors and supermarket chains participated in the two-day business meeting in Qatar, which took place over the weekend within the framework of the Hungarian Food Business Program, co-organized by the Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hungarian Embassy in Qatar. During the meeting, which took place on February 22-23, 2025, the buyers of the Middle Eastern oil power were primarily interested in free, health-conscious products. On the first day of the event, Hungarian businessmen were able to learn about the specifics of the Middle Eastern country’s economy and trade, as well as the most important information related to entering the market, from a presentation by Kata Pál, the Hungarian Embassy’s foreign trade diplomat.
