The Seed Association elected a president
Géza Takács has been elected president of the Vetőmag Szévezés Szákmaközi Szervezetz és Terektánács for another 5 years, the organization informed MTI on Friday.
The re-elected president has been leading the Seed Association since 2007, whose vice-presidents are István Cs. Nagy, Tibor Mátrai and Gyula Vida in the cycle until 2028. Before the meeting of delegates, Géza Takács called their cooperation with partner organizations and governing authorities effective, explaining that they were able to move forward in the difficult cases of recent years, they wrote.
According to the president, the coming years will not be easier either, the seed industry must adapt to the challenges
Global warming is unstoppable, the increase in the annual average temperature is particularly worrying. In the midst of such conditions, it is necessary to produce well-performing seeds that adapt to environmental changes, he added.
The Seed Association, founded in 1993, has 1,153 members
According to the announcement, seed production, which is the first step in the food chain, is also a decisive sector at the world level. In Hungary, seeds are produced on about 110,000 hectares, the total value of production is HUF 190 billion per year, exports are HUF 120 billion, the most important customers are the countries of the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States.
