Consumer protection authorities conducted an inspection at the Lehel Square market: expired food and hygiene problems were found – the authority told MTI.

According to the statement, employees of the National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority conducted a comprehensive inspection at the Lehel Csarnok, where they examined 750 kilograms of products at fruit and vegetable traders, and also inspected catering establishments and retail units.

During the comprehensive inspection, the authorities’ experts found hygiene, labeling and traceability deficiencies in four of the five catering establishments examined.

Seven kilograms of improperly stored ready-to-eat food and 31 kilograms of untraceable food were withdrawn from circulation, and other errors were the lack of cleanliness of the units and the lack of valid health books of the employees – they explained.

In one of the catering units, the information provided to consumers was also inadequate, as the “DEJÓ” nut substitute was used to prepare the dish called “diós guba” on offer, so the inspectors ordered an extraordinary major cleaning in the affected units.

The experts examined 51 items, more than 750 kilograms of products, at eight fruit and vegetable traders.

Although the quality of the goods met the relevant regulations, the labeling of the products was incomplete at 5 distributors, most notably the country of origin and quality class were not indicated, and in several cases the mandatory Hungarian flag was not displayed on domestic products.
