The busiest period of the year in stores has begun
The Christmas shopping season has started, according to the expectations of the food chains, the traffic in December may be stronger than last year, according to the overview prepared by MTI.
György Vámos, Secretary General of the National Trade Association (OKSZ), told MTI: December is always the strongest month in trade. This year too, they expect that the volume of traffic will be the highest in the last month of the year, and there is also a chance that the amount of goods purchased will exceed last December. It is expected that the improvement will be felt not only in the food market, but also in the market of manufactured goods, traders are confident that families are preparing to buy gifts, he added.
According to the general secretary, the desire to buy is strengthened, among other things, by the decrease in inflation, the rise in real earnings, the possibility of using the SZÉP card in grocery stores, as well as government measures that stimulate competition, such as price monitoring and mandatory promotions.
CBA’s communications director, Attila Fodor, indicated that they expect Christmas preparations to begin this weekend, first with the procurement of durable foods, and then, as Christmas approaches, more and more fresh products will come to the fore. He mentioned as a favorable trend that, according to the experience of the previous months, suppliers reduce their transfer prices, so the company can also reduce consumer prices.
