The tobacco harvest has begun, and the sector expects a weaker crop
This year’s extreme weather put Hungarian tobacco plantations to the test, which is why the yield is expected to be of lower quality and lower than last year – was said at a professional event in Ófehértó, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County.
Bényei Illés, President of the National Association of Hungarian Tobacco Producers (Madosz), told MTI at the plantation inspection organized by the Dofer Dohányfermentáló Zrt. for the representatives of producers that seeding, which started in early March, was negatively affected by the labor situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, and later weather extremes caused serious disruptions in production.
