Watermelon harvest started in South Békés
Watermelon harvest started in the south of Békés county. High-volume sales will begin in the first week of July on the domestic and export markets – Lipták László, company manager of a melon producer and distributor informed MTI.
He said that the heat has accelerated the ripening of melons, so the date of harvesting came seven or eight days earlier.
The melon producers of South Békés expect a medium 45 to 50 tons per hectare yield, after a major hail hit 20 to 25 percent of the watermelon growing area in June. (MTI)
