Amazing price hike on the dairy product market – more and more people may turn to imports
According to the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH), dairy products have become one of the most significant factors in food inflation. Dairy products account for more than 10% of KSH’s food basket, meaning their price fluctuations directly impact household expenses – writes Agrárszektor.

Significant price increase
In January 2025, the national average producer price of raw milk in Hungary reached 206.96 HUF per kilogram, which:
- was 3% higher than in the previous month,
- and 26% higher than in the same month last year.
The purchased quantity also increased:
- In January, 5% more raw milk was purchased than in the previous month.
- However, the export price decreased, 7% lower than in the previous month, but still 28% higher than in January 2024.
The prices of processed dairy products changed as follows compared to the previous month:

- Packaged butter: +5%
- Trappista cheese: +4%
