The launch of the #vadateszem campaign, which also draws attention to a healthy and varied diet, is a new impetus in the promotion of game meat, said Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai, Deputy State Secretary responsible for the food chain, at a press conference in Budapest on Friday to announce the initiative.

At the event, the Deputy State Secretary drew attention to the fact that game meat has outstanding nutritional values. Among other things, it is characterized by a high protein content, significant B and E vitamins, and mineral content. “The raw material fits perfectly into a health-conscious lifestyle,” added the Deputy State Secretary.

Dr. Beáta Olga Felkai highlighted that by strengthening short supply chains and consuming local products, we can also support environmental protection goals and give further impetus to the development of the game meat industry. It is a great step forward that more and more processors and restaurants are working with innovative technologies and are trying to make game meat available to domestic consumers. He explained that the Christmas season is a particularly good time to include game meat on holiday tables. “Traditional dishes such as wild boar or roe deer stew are easy to prepare and can add a new dimension to holiday menus,” he added.

He stressed that it is important that Hungarian game remains our national treasure, so special attention should be paid to educating the younger generations and promoting home cooking, as knowledge of proper preparation techniques plays a significant role in increasing interest in game meat. He noted that the annual per capita consumption of game meat in our country is only one fifth of the European average, so the #vadateszem campaign aims to make Hungarian game not only an export product, but also a prominent ingredient in domestic gastronomy. 78 restaurants have joined the campaign so far, and their offerings are now available on the www.vadateszem.hu website.
