The melon consumption promotion campaign has started
Hungarian melons appeared in stores and markets earlier than usual, already at the end of June, and it is expected that the popular summer fruit will be available until the middle of September. The Agrármarketing Centrum is organizing a national tasting campaign to promote the tasty delicacy, which is popular during the warm months mainly because of its water content.
This summer, the Agrármarketing Center is promoting seasonally available fruits, one of its most popular products being yellow and watermelon.
There is no summer without Hungarian melons, let them be the most popular seasonal fruit of the season this year as well – stated Zsolt Feldman, State Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development of the Ministry of Agriculture. – Producers who have successfully adapted to the market, professional organizations that help change attitudes, continuous government support and consistent marketing work are needed to ensure that melons are available to consumers in good quality and in adequate quantities. On the one hand, increasingly hot domestic summers, which cause so many problems for agriculture, and fortunately more and more conscious and healthy food consumption trends strengthen the sales opportunities of domestic producers from the market side. The production area is also constantly expanding, in 2024, production will take place on 3,665 hectares, which is a 30% increase compared to last year’s 2,821 hectares, he added.
