Fifth of the bees in Békés county died
15-20 percent of the bees have died in Békés county in the winter. Because of the low number of bees it is likely that this year, lower amount of rape and acacia honey will be produced – the president of the Békés County Beekeepers Association informed MTI.
Haász Ferenc told that the high bee mortality was not caused by the cold, but it has occurred due to the Asian varroa mite pest, which weakened the immune system of the bees. In addition a diarrhea virus also occured in the hives during the winter. (MTI)
