Obesity is getting worse in Hungary
The rate of obesity among the adult population in Europe is the highest in Hungary, and we rank fourth after the United States, Mexico and New Zealand globally. Obesity is linked to the development of many diseases, so the burden on social security is significant. On the European Day against Obesity in 2019, the International Confectionery Association (ISA) was once again joined by two obesity resaerch companies.
Today, more than 50 percent of the population in Europe is overweight and over 20 percent obese, but estimates suggest that the proportion of the latter may rise to 50 percent by 2030, or even reach 89 percent in some states. The situation in Hungary is also getting worse: according to the OECD report, the proportion of obese people in Europe is the highest in our country, and globally Hungary is ranked fourth after the US, Mexico and New Zealand.
