Dynamic growth in sales of 100 ml tubes
Retail sales of toothpaste were up by 4 percent in 2008, exceeding HUF 10 billion. Regarding unit size, the 51-75 ml segment remained the largest, although the 100 ml size produced dynamic growth within the 76-100 ml segment. Drugstores increased their market share at the expense of small stores. In the 401-2,500 square meter segment, discounts improved their market position. Average price was up by 4 percent in 2008. Retail sales of tooth brushes were also up by 4 percent in 2008, approaching HUF 4 billion. Over 11 million manual tooth brushes were sold last year, while sales of electric tooth brushes were up by 17 percent, reaching 400,000. Sales of tooth brushes are highly concentrated, with hyper markets and drugstores accounting for 60 percent of sales in the manual segment and 97 percent in the electric segment.
