HungaroControl managed lively Easter air traffic
Traffic in Hungarian airspace increased significantly during the Easter period compared to the same period last year, the Hungarian air navigation service provider, HungaroControl Zrt., told MTI on Thursday.
The Easter long weekend is considered a priority period in air traffic, during which domestic airspace traffic usually exceeds the number of aircraft movements measured on average days of the year, the statement said.
This year, during the Easter long weekend, HungaroControl specialists assisted in the safe movement of 12,534 aircraft. This is a 17.3 percent increase compared to last year’s holiday period, when 10,688 aircraft passed over Hungary.
This year’s traffic exceeds the 2019 Easter statistical data, which was before the Covid pandemic, by more than 37 percent.
They added that
the outstanding growth trend in overflight traffic of recent years continued: based on traffic data, 88 percent of aircraft over the festive period were flights over Hungarian airspace.
The statement quoted Ferenc Turi, CEO of HungaroControl Zrt., as saying that over 3,000 flights were handled per day during the festive period, and all of this was achieved without significant delays.
