Food retail still dropping
Retail sales were down by 3.2 percent in February 2009, compared to the same month in 2008 and by 0.5 percent, compared to January. Retail sales totalled HUF 958 billion in January-February 2009. Sales generated by food stores were down by 2.5 percent in February, compared to the same month in 2008 and by 0.2 percent compared to January. Sales generated by general stores which account for 91 percent of total sales were down by 2.6 percent in the same period.
