The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) and the Consumer Protection Department of the Pest County Government Office are conducting an official inspection of the product MYCO GUMIVITAMIN, offered for sale under the brand name Drops of Nature, the consumer protection authority announced.

The investigation was based on a public interest report, which drew the attention of the authorities to advertisements circulating on social media (TikTok, Facebook), in which the product is presented as a remedy for the symptoms of ADHD (attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, excessive need for movement, difficulties with scheduling).

The claims made about the product on the Hungarian website (https://mycomagyarorszag.com) – alleviation of ADHD symptoms, balance, improved digestion, mental health, stress reduction, increased energy levels – go beyond the health claims that can be legally made about foods, since it is prohibited to attribute disease-preventing, symptom-relieving or healing effects to foods.

The NKFH emphatically drew attention to the fact that the Hungarian name of the product on the website is misleading, as the composition of the product does not contain any vitamins at all. Its main ingredients are various mushrooms and an extract of the root of the Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) plant. The official inspection revealed that the product is not only of concern due to the information about the product, but also due to the ingredients of the product. It contains several mushrooms that, when used as ingredients in the food category, qualify as “novel food” not only in Hungary, but also throughout the European Union.

As explained, such food ingredients can only be used in food after a separate licensing procedure, the mushrooms in question currently do not have a license, so their use is illegal. The recommended daily amount of Ashwagandha extract (500 mg) also exceeds the level considered safe in Hungary. Based on the negative list issued by the National Center for Public Health and Pharmaceuticals (NNGYK), the daily permissible amount of the plant substance would be 250 mg.
