eMAG’s restructuring program in Hungary has reached a new stage: the company has closed its physical stores and is now also selling its logistics center in Dunaharaszti, in which it previously invested 100 million euros.

eMAG intends to sell its warehouse base of more than 100 thousand square meters in Dunaharaszti. The property opened in December 2023 and is unique in that it was the company’s first logistics center built outside of Romania, and also the largest facility in the region. The complex is currently listed at a book value of $94 million, i.e. less than the original investment of about 100 million euros. The transaction is scheduled to close by April 2026.

Without physical stores, with streamlined operations

Prosus, the majority owner of eMAG, has been restructuring its loss-making Hungarian subsidiary since last summer. As part of this, the domestic physical stores were closed, the last of which was closed in August this year. As part of the measures, several assets were sold, and now they are getting rid of the largest investment, the warehouse in Dunaharaszt.

Loss-making year, decreasing headcount

According to Forbes Hungary, eMAG Hungary recorded a loss of 9.9 billion forints in the 2025 financial year. The number of employees has decreased from 458 to less than half since January. According to the Prosus report, the restructuring resulted in significant losses in the first half of the financial year – a loss of about two million dollars was recorded – but the Hungarian subsidiary managed to become profitable in the second half.

Growth at the group level

While signs of retreat are visible in Hungary, the total turnover of the eMAG group continues to grow. The company’s strategic focus is increasingly on ensuring profitable operations, rationalizing loss-making markets and improving operational efficiency.
