The government would help the pig sector with unspent EU funds until the end of the year, in order to support the doubling of the current pig population – Font Sándor, Fidesz chairman of the Parliament's agriculture committee said in Pápa at the press conference held before the committee’s meeting on Friday.
Experts estimate that the size of the almost won, but unspent EU funds can be between 8 and 50 billion HUF – the chairman said.
He added that the processing industry should also be supported, therefore, the government supported the affected local governments to save the three large meat processing plants – including the Pápai Hús kft. – from bankruptcy. (MTI)
