Soon you can withdraw money for free at the Post Office
From January 1, 2025, new rules regarding cash withdrawals will enter into force in Hungary. According to the decree, it will be possible to withdraw a maximum of HUF 150,000 for free at post offices twice a month. This change allows the population to have easier access to cash in different parts of the country.
The legislative amendment adopted by the Parliament makes it possible to use the monthly free cash withdrawal of HUF 150,000 through the post office. The decree details how cash can be withdrawn, including automatic banknote dispensing machines and POS terminals.
Previously, from July 2023, it was already possible to withdraw cash together with the purchase, but this possibility was not widely spread. Only a narrow group could use it in practice, so it did not significantly help access to cash.
