Saveggy develops edible plant-based cucumber packaging
Swedish start-up Saveggy has developed a breakthrough solution to replace plastic packaging for cucumbers: the edible plant-based coating is made from rapeseed oil and gluten-free buckwheat oil, keeping the product fresh for up to two weeks.

Saveggy’s development could also offer an alternative to single-use plastics banned by the EU from 2030

The new technology is currently being tested in Sweden as part of a one-month pilot programme, in collaboration with the ICA supermarket chain and the producer Odlarna.se. In the test period approximately 250,000 cucumbers with Saveggy’s plant-based coating will be sold in 700 ICA stores.
