From exotic specialties to the Guinness-record-breaking kürtőskalács, from native animals to gastronomic demonstrations, the 82nd National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) awaits its visitors with countless exciting programs. The guest of honor of the four-day event, which starts on September 18, is the Republic of the Philippines this year, which is coming to HUNGEXPO with an exotic gastronomic presentation, ten exhibitors and mouth-watering tastings.

Philippines: OMÉK’s partner country introduces itself

The partner country of the 82nd National Agricultural and Food Exhibition and Fair (OMÉK) this year will be the Republic of the Philippines, which will introduce itself to the domestic audience with an independent stand consisting of ten exhibitors in Pavilion A. Visitors can get a taste of the island nation’s unique gastronomy: the stand will feature Indonesian spices, exotic chips (made from coconut, sweet potato and cassava), coconut oil, coconut water, Indian lemongrass oil, as well as special products made from the vitamin-rich, but notoriously fragrant durian fruit. Foreign trade relations between the Philippines and Hungary have gradually expanded in recent years, especially with regard to the exchange of food and agricultural products, so the current participation in OMÉK is an important step towards further strengthening the economic cooperation between the two countries.

Two gastronomic experience areas will also provide special foods at the 82nd OMÉK: in one, you can taste the artisanal products of small producers, primary producers, and family farmers, and here you can also learn about the Open Porta Program organized by the Herman Ottó Institute. Among the stands will be honey makers, bonbon masters, and ice cream makers, but on the thematic islands you can also choose between game meats, jams, pastas, and syrups. On the Mentes Sziget, you can taste gluten-, sugar-, and lactose-free delicacies, and on the main stage, children’s concerts and performances await the most deserving. In the other gastronomic area, the largest producer fair of the Carpathian Basin awaits those seeking traditional and special flavors: all regions across the border will appear on the nearly 2,000 square meter exhibition space, including Partium, Inner Transylvania, Székelyföld, Felvidék, Subcarpathia, Drávaszög, Muravidék and Vojvodina. On September 20, visitors to the pavilion will be able to taste a shortened version of the 21-meter-long Guinness record-breaking kürtőskalács, once baked in Csíkszentgyörgy: the Székely Association of Farmers is planning to prepare an 8-meter version of the traditional delicacy.
