The Milk Product Council and the Hungarian Dairy Experimental Institute Ltd. are educating together
The Milk Product Council and the Hungarian Dairy Research Institute Ltd. are launching a series of articles entitled “Butter Definition”, which aims to clarify information about butter, dispel misconceptions, and provide consumers with professionally credible information. In the series, we provide answers to the most frequently asked questions and help deepen basic knowledge about butter.
Recently, a large margarine manufacturer’s advertising campaign titled “Leave the cows alone” has received a lot of attention, which was intended to promote a margarine marketed as a so-called “butter alternative”. Due to the current situation and the comments received on the advertisements appearing on social media – where a butter-margarine battle often broke out among consumers without facts – the Hungarian Dairy Industry Experimental Institute Ltd. (MTKI Ltd.) and the Milk Product Council feel that it is our duty to provide information, representing an expert position, as it is clear that fact-based information is needed.
The researchers of MTKI Ltd. dealing with product and technology development have extensive experience in the field of butter production, and in their laboratory they regularly test butters from different manufacturers, so they can state that they understand butter.
Butter is one of the oldest foods of mankind, produced from animal fat. In Hungary, it is primarily produced from cow’s milk. We have many experiences with it. Its texture, taste, and aroma are familiar, whether we spread it on bread or use it in cooking.
