Uniform information on margin-stopped products is coming – mandatory sign in all affected stores
New regulations regarding the margin freeze will come into effect on March 29: according to a newly published government decree, all affected stores must inform customers with a mandatory sign about which products the measure applies to. Retailers have one week to put up information signs of at least A3 or A4 size, Index points out.
Clear signs everywhere
The decree of Antal Rogán, the Minister who heads the Prime Minister’s Cabinet Office, was published in the Hungarian Official Gazette on Friday evening and will come into effect on March 29. According to this, stores subject to the margin freeze must place information signs that list the 30 food categories affected.
The purpose of the information is to provide consumers with information in a uniform and clearly visible form about which products the margin cap applies to.
Size and shape requirements by store and surface area
The size and placement of mandatory signs depend on the size of the store:
In larger stores (hypermarkets, large supermarkets, discount stores, and stores larger than 200 m² but not meeting the minimum discount area):
An information sign of at least A3 size (297×420 mm) must be placed at each entrance, in the same way as the usual business information.
In smaller stores (up to 200 m²):
An A4 sign (210×297 mm) must be placed at the entrance.
It is also mandatory to display information next to products:
A sign of at least 80×50 mm must be placed next to the price in a clearly visible manner, next to or as part of the individual price list.
In the case of online stores:
the sign must also be displayed on the homepage of the website, and the information must also be displayed next to the price of the products.
