More Hungarians are open to vegan diet, but meat still dominates
Although only 3% of the Hungarian population follows a plant-based diet, nearly a quarter are open to vegan alternatives, we can learn from recent research by NRC.

The majority refuses meat-free meats, dairy-free cheeses, and plant-based drinks

Consumers are primarily held back by their love of meat (70%) and Hungarian cuisine (64%), while four out of ten are averse to “artificial, synthetic foods”. 37% don’t like the “taste of vegan foods” and 41% are held back by the “difficulties in purchasing vegan foods”. Nevertheless, a quarter of those who have tried veggie burgers would buy them again.
