More and more people are buying premium refurbished mobile phones: every fifth order is paid with Klarna at Rejoy.hu

In the past five months, Hungarian customers have purchased refurbished mobile devices worth more than half a billion forints from Rejoy with installment payment options – now every fifth purchase is made with Klarna.

While previously installment purchases only accounted for a few percent of all orders, the launch of Klarna’s “Buy Now, Pay Later” service last fall brought a real turnaround at Rejoy. Since then, their customers have been able to pay for their devices in three equal, interest-free monthly installments with a bank card, all with low administrative costs.

They also get a premium for a refurbished mobile phone

Those who buy a refurbished smartphone or other device with a Klarna installment payment are mainly looking for relatively new models in Hungary, such as the iPhone 15 and 16 series. Of these, the premium Pro and Pro Max models are most popular in new, i.e. in the best possible aesthetic condition. The 2020 MacBook Air is also a popular product, which, although not such a new model, is still able to outperform even new models of similar price due to its outstanding battery life and performance.

This is how simple installment payments help sales

In the case of Klarna’s BNPL service, it is faster and easier to pay in multiple installments than traditional credit cards, and the service is popular among e-retailers because it helps increase the average cart value and reduce the number of cart abandonments, for example in the case of Rejoy. Part of the basic concept is interest-free for the consumer, as after transactions, it is not the customers, but the refurbished mobile phone company that pays a commission to Klarna.

New devices will soon be available for installments

Rejoy.hu currently offers devices worth up to 600 thousand forints with Klarna installment payments. This makes the most modern refurbished devices available to a wider range of people. This price range already includes some of the iPhone 17 series introduced last year, but it also includes Apple’s previous top device, the iPhone 16 Pro Max with larger storage space, as well as high-performance, more modern MacBooks.
