We are buying more and more refurbished mobile phones
Last October, Magyar Telekom launched its joint service with Recommerce Group, in which refurbished devices are sold, thus supporting the circular economy and offering a choice to its environmentally conscious and/or price-sensitive customers. Today, nearly 300 expert-tested and A+ premium-rated mobile phones are purchased from the company every week, and according to trends, this number may increase even further in the future.
The circular economy is an important element of Telekom’s climate protection efforts: in October 2023, the company was the first among Hungarian telecommunications service providers to start selling fully refurbished devices in addition to new mobile phones. Telekom thus aims to serve customer needs that take material consumption and the circular economy into account.
The first year’s experience shows that customers value A+ premium devices from a reliable source, as the company has been purchasing nearly 300 devices per week since its launch. At Telekom, not only the fully refurbished devices provide a novel experience, but also the purchasing process, as these mobile phones are available through Telekom’s webshop in the same way as new ones. The most outstanding month in the sales of refurbished devices was June, when nearly 32 percent more mobile phones were sold than in an average month. The most popular refurbished devices are clearly iPhones. The best-selling devices since launch are the iPhone 13, iPhone 11, and iPhone 12. These three types accounted for 44 percent of the devices sold.
“At Telekom, we specifically strive to cover as many emerging needs as possible and offer our customers solutions in all areas that can clearly tune up their everyday lives. Our refurbished devices, which we have been offering since last year, provide Telekom customers with an environmentally conscious and cost-effective choice, which is why we are very happy that we managed to reach such a large audience in the first year and we sincerely hope that the popularity of these devices will continue to grow in the future,”
said Zoltán Pereszlényi, Telekom’s Deputy Chief Commercial Officer.
